Muhento

Cycling · Hiking · Outdoors

No internet? Your team still sees each other.

Muhento is an Android app for cycling and hiking groups. With a small LoRa board paired to your phone over Bluetooth, locations travel from board to board: no mobile data, cell towers or subscription. No board? Join the same map over the internet.

Join the beta How it works
  • A team in a minute. No account. Start an activity; anyone who scans the QR code is in.
  • Made for group rides. Sweep alerts, roles, one-tap messages, press-and-hold SOS.
  • Your location stays with your team. Encrypted, no account, no ads; recordings stay on your phone. Your family can follow in a browser if you share a link.

Android test version. The board isn't on sale yet; you can join without one. The app is in Turkish for now.

A sample of the Team screen: who is where, who can't be heard.

Why

Coverage ends right where the ride gets good.

Most group-tracking apps need mobile data on every phone. In a valley, a forest or up on a high plateau, the moment the signal drops, the team loses track of each other.

The team spreads out

The front rider starts the climb while the one at the back fixes a flat. Nobody knows who is where, so people wait, search and turn back.

Messages don't get through

To say “We're taking a break”, “I've fallen behind” or “Dropped my chain”, your phone needs a signal. Where there's none, the message gets stuck on the way.

In an emergency, minutes matter

Finding someone who has fallen, is exhausted or has lost their way takes far longer without a signal.

How it works

Boards relay it. Your phone shows it.

01

Install the app; pair your board if you have one

Enter your name and allow the permissions; the “Telefon hazır mı?” (Is your phone ready?) checklist flags battery settings that could stop it mid-ride. With a board: Ben → Kartım → Kart ara (Me → My board → Find board), then type the 6-digit PIN shown on the board.

02

Join with a QR code

The leader starts an activity (Ekip → Başlat) and shows a QR code; whoever scans it is in right away. For someone with a board who is within radio range but too far away to scan the code, the leader can open remote joining for 30 minutes and approve the request (in testing). Without a board, scan the QR code. The activity's key stays only on members' phones and boards.

03

Head out

Boards relay locations on 868 MHz; someone far away is still heard thanks to the boards in between. No subscription or SIM card needed. Members without a board stay on the same map wherever they have internet.

Each phone connects to its own board over Bluetooth. Even if Ece can't hear you directly, Mert's board in between relays the locations to both of you.

In the app

Four short clips, real screens.

Team map

Who is where, who can't be heard.

Falling behind

If someone drops behind the sweep, the sweep and leader know; both need a board connected.

Send an SOS

Press and hold, it goes to your team with your location; without a board, over the internet or a nearby phone with a board (in testing). It doesn't call emergency services.

Features

What you need out there. Nothing more.

Built to be used on the road, not in front of a screen: large touch targets, sparse sounds that are easy to tell apart, and a dark theme for night.

Team map

Everyone's position, heading, when they were last heard, and their track. With boards, team markers and alerts arrive without internet; the base map still downloads online for now (one test region is built into the app).

SOS

Press and hold; after a 5-second countdown your SOS goes to the team with your location. In teams with boards, receiving phones reply “SOS alındı” (SOS received) automatically and can answer “Geliyorum” (on my way). If someone has the first-aid role, the nearest first aider and their distance appear. SOS only reaches your team; it doesn't call emergency services.

Falling behind

If someone hasn't been heard for 3 minutes, the app says so once. In teams with boards, anyone who drops behind the sweep is reported to the sweep and the leader in one short sentence. It doesn't keep talking.

Quick messages

“Dur, toplanalım” (stop, regroup), “Lastik patladı” (flat tire), “Mola, su” (break, water)… Eight quick messages go out with one tap; your phone can read incoming ones aloud. Short free text works too.

Roles

Leader, assistant leader, guide, marshal, sweep, first aid or a role you name, plus permissions such as approving joins or ending the activity. Shown in the list on phones with a board connected.

Join without a board

No board? You're still on the team: through the team's encrypted room wherever you have internet, or over Bluetooth through a nearby phone that has a board (in testing). Where there's no coverage, a member without a board drops off; their last position stays on the map.

Ride recording

Speed, distance, time, climb and descent, average, altitude. Pause and resume; export from Kayıtlarım (My recordings) as FIT or GPX.

Routes

Open a GPX route; the app shows the distance left and tells you when you leave it.

Multiple activities

Tour group, club, family: up to three activities at once with a board, each with its own key.

Watch app In testing

Recording on a Wear OS watch: GPS and heart rate, pause and resume; it moves to your phone when you stop. In testing: team list, SOS and alerts on your wrist.

With or without a board

No board? Same map.

You don't need a board to join a team. The app puts everyone on one map, whichever way their location arrives.

Locations sent over the internet are encrypted on the phone with the team's key. The server in between can't see inside the packets and stores nothing. Only one phone passes internet traffic on to LoRa, so the channel isn't flooded.

LoRa

People with a board go board to board, with no internet. Even when the team spreads out, the boards in between pass it on.

Bluetooth

A phone without a board is heard through the Bluetooth broadcast of a phone with a board a few dozen meters away; that phone's board carries its location to the team. In testing

Internet

A phone without a board that is far away joins the team's encrypted room, if it has internet. People with boards see it, and it sees them. For members with and without boards to see each other, at least one phone with a board needs internet. In testing

Family following

Let your family follow from home.

While recording, tap “Ailemle paylaş” (Share with family) and send the link. Your family sees your live position and your route since the start in their browser, with nothing to install.

  • Teammates appear as anonymous dots; in teams with boards the leader can turn that off. When someone shares from a phone without a board, the team still shows.
  • The link is end-to-end encrypted with a key of its own; anyone who has the link can watch, so send it only to people you trust.
  • Sharing stops when the recording or activity ends, or after 12 hours at most.
  • Your family sees you as long as your phone has internet.

Privacy

Your location stays with your team.

No account

No sign-up, no email address or phone number. Your name is seen by your team and by people you share your location with; while remote joining is open, nearby Muhento users can also see the activity's and the leader's names, and yours if you send a remote-join request.

Encrypted

The channel key on LoRa, the team's key on the internet; the Bluetooth broadcast (in testing) uses a short team code. The server can't see inside the packets and doesn't store them.

Recordings stay on your phone

Your rides stay on your phone. You decide where and when they're uploaded.

No ads

The app is free with no ads; your data isn't sold or used for advertising. It's licensed under GPL-3.0; the source repository isn't public yet, and we'll link it here when it is.

Where we are

We build it by testing it out on the road.

  1. Aug–Sep 2026 The first boards and the first version of the app.
  2. Sep–Oct 2026 Field tests: bike tours and hikes. We review every outing and fix what we find.
  3. Now A test version of the Android app on Google Play, with joining without a board and family following. The Wear OS app opens to testers soon.
  4. Next (no date) A public release on Play (once the board can be bought), opening the source code, an iPhone version, a board you can buy.

FAQ

Short answers.

Do I need a board?

No. Without one you're on the team map wherever you have internet; the board is for places without coverage.

What if there's no internet?

Members with boards keep seeing each other; a member without one drops off and their last position stays on the map. Offline, the base map only covers the test region built into the app.

What's the range?

It depends heavily on terrain, where the board is carried and its height. In one measurement on a flat road, boards heard most positions within a few hundred meters and rarely beyond 1 km; boards in between extend the reach.

Does SOS call for help?

No, it only reaches your team. In an emergency, call 112 (Türkiye) or your local emergency number.

How many people can use it?

Today's settings are made for teams of 10–12; in the field we've tested with three boards so far. Events of 100+ are a goal, not supported yet.

Is there an iPhone version? Is it free? Where do I get a board?

No iPhone version yet, and no date. The app is free with no ads and in Turkish for now. The board isn't on sale yet.

Join the test version.

We're looking for cyclists and hikers with an Android phone (Android 8 or newer). No board? Join anyway: wherever there's internet, you're on the same map as your team. The app is in Turkish for now.
